Indigenous rehabilitation solutions; through healthcare start-up, Metafix Ortho Pvt. Ltd and Students from Design Students; to make way for affordable orthosis.
Soon the Country will have indigenous developed rehabilitation products. Metafix Ortho and students from leading design college in India are working on Campaign, coined “Fabricating the Future”!
Fabricating the Future is a campaign, run by the founder of Metafix Ortho, that targets for solutions in healthcare and sustainable energy. It is divided in three domains of application. Design, Engineering and Healthcare. In the Design domain, it is further divided in three levels. Level 1 starts at developing of the prototype, Level 2 starts at validating the prototype and final level, Level 3, is the commercialising it as a product.
Keeping in mind the current scenario of healthcare in India and the socio-economic barrier that restricts the use of commercially available orthosis and prosthesis ( manufactured abroad, higher price), Metafix Ortho has included the problems that need a low-cost solution to help patients rehabilitate to a fuller extent. These problems have been included in the special needs course that MIT-ID students from third year work on.
The idea worked well and upon the briefing of the problems statements by the experts, Salman Shaikh of Metafix Ortho, Salil Jain of 3D Rehabilitation Solutions, Pune and Dr. Bhakti Jamdade, Consultant Physio in CBR, the process of “Fabricating the Future” began.
Twenty-five young, enthusiast and innovative students are currently working on the design of the products. The process is going to help the students to explore the role of design in the healthcare and rehabilitation industry.
The founder of the start-up has been a part of academics for a long term is a certified MIE professional, an innovator himself and headed incubation centre for brief time. Metafix Ortho wants its industry-academic interaction to be very strong and hence is looking forward to create relations with premier institutions and help deliver solutions at grass-root level problems in future.
